Volunteer?

2 Oct 2014 by My Mini Minder

Hi All,

You will have received a rather large email so I thought Id update you here is short. Essentially, I am pushing to get involved with 2 organisations that are very much in line with our values…

The Nappy Collective:

Can you volunteer for 2 hours on the 9th and 16th November?

Simply, they are a group of mothers from Toorak who saw mothers fleeing violent or unsafe homes. Many of whom are isolated and alone but mostly who have to chose between purchasing nappies for their babies and toilet paper. The Nappy Collective is a simple concept. Businesses across Melbourne volunteer to be a drop point so that mothers can ‘drop’ their unused and unwanted nappies to be collected and distributed.

Iv watched these guys from afar and in just one year they have managed to grow from an organisation collecting roughly 10,000 nappies to 109,669!
Following the last collection, I heard that these ladies really struggled for volunteers. And so, I offered them an army of volunteers or baby-sitters.

These ladies need some help counting all these nappies and so, I ask a few hours of your time to volunteer and help count nappies. I will be at this event on the 9th and 16th November but my counting ability is not enough on its own.

The McAuley Services for Woman:

Could you donate your time, at any time, to play with children who need a smile?

The Services for Woman, one of the beneficiaries of The Nappy Collective and the only 24/7 shelter in Victoria allowing woman in violent relationships to leave at any time. After hearing the CEO of McAully speak at a luncheon, it occurred to me that many children in these types of situations will never experience the relationship of a babysitter and child which I believe to be truly unique.

Again, I ask for a couple hours of your time at some stage before the end of the year…. To do what?
Gift these children with your ability to “play”.
As these families cannot afford food, let alone a babysitter and ’me time and make these children smile.

Again, I am more than happy to co-ordinate times etc. We can arrange a time that works best for you so if you think you might like to do this, put half a day aside before the end of the year to make yourself and children happy.

I will be touching base with each of you to request dates and times unless I hear from you first.
I hope one of these two organisations or tasks interested you and excites you as much as it does me. You are also encouraged to do this with a friend whether they be apart of the My Mini Minders team or someone outside. The more the merrier!
